Who We Are

Godfather Families is a Pittsburgh based non-profit agency whose mission is to promote public safety and personal growth solutions that foster healthy living for the benefit of disadvantaged individuals, families, and the community. We aim to break the cycle of violence, poverty, mass incarceration that lead to homelessness and mental health disparities. We administer programs and social services throughout the community which focus on creating equitable opportunities for residents to build stable and successful lives. Our clients may be young, working poor families or justice involved individuals with whom we work to support their transition to becoming fully integrated and engaged members of their communities – to find a place where they belong.

Godfather Families relies upon support from individual donors, foundations and corporations. Godfather Families is part of the well-established network of other local non-profits and agencies. Volunteers are a vital complement to our experienced professional staff.

Programs

The organization pursues its mission through 5 core service areas:

Financial Literacy

Godfather Families provides group workshops and one on one training in the areas of credit restoration, budgeting, home ownership and financial empowerment.

Workforce Development

Through a comprehensive approach encompassing skill-building, career guidance, entrepreneurship and community engagement, our program strives to create a pathway to economic stability, social integration, and personal growth for low-income individuals and returning citizens.

Reentry

Our Reentry Program is a wholistic approach aimed at facilitating successful reintegration into society and provides a holistic approach to support participants in their journey towards stable and productive lives. By addressing key areas such as drug and alcohol training, mental health programming, life skills training, and housing assistance, we strive to empower recently incarcerated individuals to overcome barriers and achieve sustainable reentry outcomes.

Violence Prevention

Our violence prevention program is a comprehensive initiative designed to address the critical issues of domestic abuse and violence within underserved communities. Recognizing the urgent need to create safer environments and support survivors, our program aims to empower individuals, families, and communities to break the cycle of violence, foster healing, and promote long-term well- being.

Advocacy Support

We utilize Fatherhood Engagement Specialists to advocate for men and fathers involved in legal matters which prevent them from parenting their children and family development. Once we assess the matter and reveal the underlying surface issue, we then work to create realistic effective strategies and partnerships to produce resolution while providing relief to the concern.
